The game always puts Player 1 in the mech suit at the start of each round, which is fun for Player 1, but in Co-Op can grate on other players who start without the Mech suit for no fault of their own. With three unlockable difficulty levels available across the multiple planes – at least I like to think of them as difficulty levels, when in fact it just ramps up the toughness as it goes – it’s sometimes confusing to understand exactly where you are going next.Īfter finishing the first few tutorial style stages, each round begins with Player 1 dropping down in Tesla’s Mech suit and blasting as many of the creepy-crawly bad guys as fast as they can for that 30-second window. When combined with the delightful sound effects, it really does bring a fast and furious atmosphere to Tesla vs Lovecraft.Aside from its hugely repetitive nature, the actual gameplay is a bit of a hit, but 10tons have let themselves down with a confusing menu system. Whilst the story is quickly banished to the background, the visuals hold up against any other indie game on the market too, and even though it is sometimes tricky to understand exactly what is going on in the melee, a quick quantum dash or two will see you making much needed time and space. It’s also rather brilliant to hear an awesome backing tune ramping up with the action on screen. But for a quick hit with mates, it certainly does the job.And it’s not just the cooperative option that 10tons have ensured runs smoothly as the solo story comes without a glitch – and when you take into account the huge number of enemies, the swiftness of gameplay, the amount of bullets hitting the screen and the overall production levels that have been thrown in, this is no mean feat. It would possibly be better to have things running in a split screen format though, as groups get split up very easily indeed, pushing the screen to ever decreasing sizes. The multiplayer is fairly well developed too with any local friends able to help the solo player battle through their own story campaign. It would have been cracking to see 10tons able to implement an online cooperative offering, especially should it run as free and fluidly as the local experience, but I’m not going to knock them too much for preferring the local route. Whilst the likes of Explosive Barrels and Tesla Sticks may seem like nice little add-ons to help when the army in front of you is too vast for standard weapons, it is when you go equipped with the awesome X-Ray Blade and Aether Blade that your powers move up a gear or two.But that’s not all and no less than 25 special perks are available to Mr Tesla, seeing each stage going from fast paced bullet shooting to utter madness in just a few short minutes. To accompany these are special weapon unlocks that you can grab, with cutting edge science seemingly in vogue. With these popping up throughout each arena, you’ll be able to make the most of multiple weapon types numerous times. Even if those tactics focus solely on running for your life.Thankfully it isn’t long before your pistol can be swapped out for multiple other weapons and the more you play Tesla vs Lovecraft, the more you’ll unlock, giving random access to basic shotguns, revolvers, Tesla rifles and a whole ton more. They all attack in different ways too, and whilst the pace of the game doesn’t really allow much time for a thought process to be taken in, you’ll certainly need to bring a slight degree of tactical nous to your actions. See, whilst very few will fight back with projectiles, the sheer size of their swarms will ensure you are under the cosh at all times, with the Deep Ones, Spawn of Dagon, Fire Vampires, Flying Polyp and Tentacles just a few of the various enemy types. But what it does all boil down to though is a fast paced twin stick shooter that never relents, seeing you face off against a whole multitude of bad guys. And it is these monsters which have come direct from the mind of Lovecraft himself. And my god there are a lot of horrors, although thankfully the gameplay isn’t one of those.Starting off with a simple pistol, you’ll need to navigate your way safely around multiple stages, picking off the enemy with aplomb. It is from there on out where the battle between the two begins.Playing as Tesla, it is up to you to utilise all manner of high-tech equipment as you beat back the horrors from within each stage. And all because just as one of Tesla’s greatest inventions is about to launch, his lab is burnt to the floor by the minions of H.P. But 10tons have come a long way since those early releases and now their twin stick mindset allows them to deliver not just a game with great mechanics, but one that has most definitely seen the studio grow up.But enough of the backstory, what’s Tesla vs Lovecraft all about? Well, as you would expect it brings together the most gruesome of horrors with the finest tech that science has ever had to offer. It’s critical to document the above points in the scope document. The project scope defines what’s included and what’s not included in the project, including: And ultimately to delayed project deliveries and sometimes complete project failure. Failure to establish scope results in scope creep. Step #1: Define Project ScopeĮstablishing a clear project scope is essential before your team begins working on a project. In this article, let’s take a look at Toggl Plan, a simple project planning tool that’s perfect for small and medium-sized teams. This tool can be project management software or a simple project planning template (shared below). The project planning process involves five steps.Īs with anything in managing projects, a project management tool will help you do things faster and more efficiently. You may be thinking to yourself, “That sounds great and all, but how do I answer these questions.” This brings us to the next point: How Do You Create A Simple Project Plan? If your project plan answers these four questions, then it’s doing the job. Gantt timelines make it easy to communicate the project’s schedule across the team.Ī project plan answers three basic questions: Project plans can be in the form of documents, spreadsheets, or Gantt timelines. Because each project is unique, no two project plans are the same. It’s also called a project management plan. What Is A Simple Project Plan?Ī project plan is a document that defines the project scope and outlines its objectives. Pros & cons of simple project plan templates.Capture, prioritize, and organize project activities. How do you create a simple project plan?.A systematic planning process and a simple project plan template can make things easy for you. Creating a project plan can feel intimidating, especially if you’re not a technical manager. The extent to which the language of the I Ching speaks of “good fortune” is linked to responsible choice. Let it go forth into the world for the benefit of those who can discern its meaning.Īlthough historically the symbols of the I Ching are known to have been used for divination, the texts do not lend themselves to fortune-telling, but do strongly encourage personal responsibility and integrity - hallmark goals of psychotherapy. He who is not pleased by it does not have to use it, and he who is against it is not obliged to find it true. To one person its spirit appears as clear as day to another, shadowy as twilight to a third, dark as night. It offers neither facts nor power, but for lovers of self-knowledge, of wisdom – if there be such – it seems to be the right book. Like a part of nature, it waits until it is discovered. The I Ching does not offer itself with proofs and results it does not vaunt itself, nor is it easy to approach. In his introduction to the Wilhelm-Baynes edition, Jung wrote: Carol Anthony’s language is considerably more accessible, but sufficiently open to interpretation to serve as a creative stimulus in therapy. I have, in the past, consulted the “original” Wilhelm-Baynes edition, which I find to be poetic and rich, but also substantially obscure and less useful as an introduction to the I Ching for someone formerly uninitiated. Anthony’s book includes a simple direction about tossing coins and charting a hexagram. Anthony supplemented her understanding with imagery and associations pursuant to meditation on the text. Baynes of Richard Wilhelm’s German translation - known as the Wilhelm-Baynes edition. She used as her text an English translation by Cary F. Anthony, of Stow, Massachusetts, entitled simply, A Guide to the I Ching. The most lucid guide to the I Ching that I have found is a book written by Carol K. The person who wishes to consult the I Ching, and who throws the coins, is considered to have, at that moment, a meaningful connection to the pattern of lines created - with a consequently meaningful connection to the hexagram that is formed, and to its interpretation. This is in contrast to Western thought, where “coincidence” is customarily defined as “chance happening” - as having no special meaning. I usually introduce the idea behind the tossing of the coins by observing that in Eastern culture, the concept of “synchronicity” (co-incidence) has real significance. Today’s consultation may, instead, be based on a computation of “heads and/or tails” resulting from six consecutive tossings of three coins each by the petitioner. In its ancient usage, a consultation with the I Ching involved the tossing of handfuls of sticks from the yarrow plant. The text of the I Ching dates from about 1,300 years before Christ, having begun as commentaries based upon a set of sixty-four Chinese symbols comprised of six lines each: six broken lines (yin) and/or unbroken lines (yang) stacked one upon another, as hexagrams, in every variation/combination possible, for the total of sixty-four. Along with much else, I learned that Jung had studied the wisdom of the I Ching using a German translation by Richard Wilhelm (1921). My own experience with the I Ching had its beginning decades ago, when first I read Carl Jung’s dictated autobiography, Memories, Dreams, and Reflections, and began an exploration of Jung’s contributions to psychiatry. Depending upon the patient’s openness to the option, I sometimes suggest that we try consulting a reading from a guide to the Chinese book of wisdom, the I Ching. In the course of psychotherapy, it happens, sometimes, that the work seems “stuck” - my patient persists in talking (often complaining) about the same material in about the same way, session after session. When therapy seems stuck, ancient Chinese wisdom may come to the rescue. Any leftover difficulty relies on luck of the draw. I built a tunnel – a straight line that never branched or forked – and completely eliminated dramatic tension. The result is an overly simple game that can be strategically mastered in fifteen minutes. The more concise the dungeon, the more likely it is that the character will go where you want him to go, and the more reliably he’ll encounter the treasure and monsters you place for him. If anything, the AI ensures that the opposite is true. Guild of Dungeoneering assumes that you’ll want to craft a sprawling dungeon despite the fact that there is no incentive to do so. Once you’ve defeated one Rubber Ducky, there’s not much novelty in battling another. The AI encourages players to disengage, and the referential humor isn’t enough to make up for the mechanical shortcomings. Your reward for putting up with the abuse is a punchline that’s worth a chuckle once and monotonous thereafter. You’re just an overseer watching from above while a random number generator kicks you in the teeth and tells you to laugh. Without agency, you’re not playing a game. It serves to remind you why developers don’t ordinarily kneecap the user. You will die, but you’ll know why and there’s nothing you can do about it. The randomness is programmed and therefore predictable. The gimmick is supposed to inform the humor, but the setup is far more frustrating than funny. You get to build the map, but you don’t get to explore it. The alpha attempts to restore suspense with random character movement – an AI determines each move – and even touts the absence of player control as a primary feature. Guild of Dungeoneering offers only coded solitude, which minimizes the potential for quirky spontaneity. You can never predict how opponents will use the cards they have. Munchkin remains fun even after the puns wear thin because the experience owes as much to the wit and aggravation of other players as it does to boxed product. The poor balance is a much greater concern, largely because it reflects an incomplete understanding of the appeal of tabletop gaming. Guild of Dungeoneering is sorely lacking in monster and item variety, but the engine is in place and I would expect much more content prior to launch. There are, however, several red flags that warrant caution. The humor is (mostly) on-point and the hand drawn graph-paper art style exudes a homespun charm. You use those cards to design a dungeon and fill it with loot and monsters. You start each turn with a hand of five cards, of which you must play or discard three. Like the card-based tabletop game, the latest from Gambrinous is filled with loving references to various D&D tropes, taking the meta-humor a step further with a demon that refers to itself as a Wandering Monster.Īs a proof-of-concept, the alpha is decent enough. Guild of Dungeoneering is essentially a solo variant of Munchkin that does little to mask the comparison. But beware, the bard is back with his unique brand of snark.Guild of Dungeoneering – Alpha Build – What We Think: New writing, animations, music and sound effects bring the dungeons and guild to life more than ever.Sending Chumps to their doom has never been such a blast! Improved game mechanics and complete re-balance will make your time spent in the guilds and dungeons as fun and enjoyable as it's ever been.Customise your dungeoneers like never before with dozens of new hairstyles and accessories, as well as new victory traits to help them survive that little bit longer among the dangers you throw at them.Bigger and better than ever, all content from Pirates Cove and Ice Cream Headaches is now included in the game for FREE! Not to mention new classes, new monsters, new quests and new chests full of loot. But will they be strong enough to take on the deepest dungeons? In between dungeon runs you manage your Guild, building new rooms to attract new classes of adventurer and expand your decks of cards with more powerful items. Using cards drawn from your Guild decks, you lay down rooms, monsters, traps and of course loot! Meanwhile your hero is making their own decisions on where to go and what to fight. Now fully rebuilt and remastered, Guild of Dungeoneering Ultimate Edition is a turn-based dungeon crawler with a twist: instead of controlling the hero you build the dungeon around them. Also like Battle Network, each character has a basic weapon they can always use and (usually) doesn't cost mana and collectible cards that give you special attacks. Like in Mega Man Battle Network, you and your opponent each have half of a larger grid where you move around and use your attacks. Gameplay in One Step From Eden primarily takes place in the form of battles against various enemies. Hazel, for instance, leans towards cards that summon temporary structures for offensive and defensive purposes, while Terra's skillset revolves around destroying enemy tiles to limit their movement. However, you can unlock other characters and loadouts for them by playing, and each character brings new gameplay styles to the table. At first, you'll only be able to play as the former military scientist Saffron, who starts out with an extra life, a fast but weak gun, and a suite of balanced cards. Taking place in a bleak world ravaged by war, the only bastion of hope is the titular Eden. As one (or two in local co-op) of several characters, you'll travel through eight different areas while building up your deck of abilities, collecting artifacts, and fighting off enemies. One Step From Eden has little story to deal with. Hazel's giant battle wrench is good for clobbering enemies and strengthening structures. That's where One Step From Eden comes in, bringing Battle Network to 2020 with a bang. Unless they were regulars at Friday Night Magic, it was many player's first exposure to deckbuilding in games. We've seen plenty of deckbuilding in recent years in everything from Hearthstone to Slay the Spire, but few have returned to the action-packed formula used by the blue bomber. This spinoff cast the titular robot as an AI, shifting the genre from side-scrolling platformer to RPG. Known for their unique battle system, Battle Network combines deckbuilding with moving around a grid to battle viruses and other AIs.
